My New Website

Well, I just signed up to Tumblr today and I love it!  I currently have a site built around Wordpress and Gallery - two very good open source packages.  The site is called Mullen.tv.

I recently copied all my photos to Flickr, so I’m less reliant on my Gallery installation than I used to be.  Having had a good look around to see what Tumblr has to offer, I’m very tempted to ditch my existing site.  I especially like how it integrates seamlessly with services such as Facebook and Twitter.

I will probably keep Mullen.tv online for the foreseeable future, but don’t expect many updates… this will be my new web home - danmullen.co.uk.

A stupid man’s report of what a clever man says can never be accurate, because he unconsciously translates what he hears into something he can understand.

This little snippet of commentary from North East radio station Metro FM is one of the greatest sound bites ever!

It was 18th November 2000 and the final whistle had just been blown at St. James’ Park, sealing a 2-1 win away from home for Sunderland AFC against Newcastle United, our local rivals. Simon Crabtree, the Metro FM commentator, gave an end of match speech reminiscent of Norwegian commentator Bjørge Lillelien’s 1981 “Maggie Thatcher” rant. It went like this…

“There is the final whistle! Ant and Dec, Sting, Alan Shearer, Sir John Hall, Jimmy Nail, Donna Air, Bobby Robson, Robson Green, Jackie Milburn, Tony Blair… can you hear me Tony Blair? Your boys have taken one hell of a beating!”
